Presented is a Virginia Style 2 piece "Tongue In Wreath" style plate. Similar to Mullinax # 009 ( 2nd Edition - Expanded ). A must have for every Confederate plate collection.
This plate is a relic from the outer defenses of Richmond, Virginia. These trenches were used in the mid to later part of 1864 to defend the capitol against the encroaching yankee army.
The two pieces are not a marriage. They were indeed dug together. Some of the original dirt remains, which helps to highlight the plate and details.
The tongue portion contains the reddish, high copper content that is synonymous with this style Virginia plate. The coloration can be seen clearly in the photos.
This plate is totally un-repaired and authentic in every manner. Again, desirable and would be a great addition to any collection with a most pleasing and honest patina.
The CS lettering is very sharp, distinct and attractive. A truly genuine and desirable offering from one of the most heroic and historic events in the Civil War.
This plate will no doubt "scream" to the viewer of any collection. No Confederate plate collection is complete without a Virginia 2 piece. Truly historic and exemplifies the strength and determination of Southern and Confederate valor. Don't miss out as these are getting harder to find in this condition and history.
