This type of syringe was used by Civil War doctors to irrigate wounds, and to inject powders into wounds and ears. The hard rubber "Gutta Percha" syringes are much more difficult to find intact than the pewter specimens. A rare and desirable item.
Condition is remarkable. Complete with both leather washers intact. Overall length is 5 ¾ inches long closed. 8 inches long open. Barrel tube is ¾ inch in diameter. Unmarked, unchipped and uncracked. Remarkably complete and in fantastic condition!!
Very solid and hard to find. Would make a fabulous display item for your medical collection or display.
