The Sons Of Confederate Veterans Camp #1743, based in Huntsville, Missouri was first chartered on July 15th, 1996. This date is the 132nd anniversary of Anderson's 1864 raid of Huntsville. It seems like the local population was not resisting Union occupation with sufficient zeal, so Anderson and his men relieved the community of an estimated $60,000 of monetary support and eliminated one carpetbagger who was foolish enough to run. The figure of $60,000 always seemed a bit high considering the damages that Pro-Southern Randolph County citizens were assessed to continually repair the North-Central Missouri rail road, which local boys were very good at destroying.

In Randolph County in past years, there has been 2 UCV (United Confederate Veterans) camps and we make the second SCV camp. The UCV camps were, the Thomas G. Lowry Camp #636, of Huntsville and the Marmaduke Camp #685 of Moberly, Missouri.

The first Sons Of Confederate Veterans camp was the Robert E. Lee Camp #377 of Moberly.

In 1896, the Sons of Confederate Veterans was founded by the veterans and progeny of veterans who fought in the War Between the States. The Sons of Confederate Veterans was established as, and remains, an independent organization that supports the protection and preservation of Confederate heritage. Current members are descendants of the original defenders of Confederate heritage and are not aligned or affiliated with any other organization other than the Military Order of the Stars and Bars.
